Hack Excavating was started in 1969 by Joseph Hack when he purchased one of the first Bobcat© loaders in Lafayette, Indiana. Few people had seen or even knew what could be done with Bobcat© loaders which are so common today.
Joseph’s son John Hack graduated from Purdue University with a degree in Business Management and served in the U.S. Army. Upon his return to the Lafayette area, he joined his father in the excavation business in 1974. John learned the best way to excavate and how to run a successful business. John continues as president of the company, oversees the office and works on project sites.
John’s wife Jennie Hack is a partner in the company and has managed the office since the early days of the company, including while she stayed at home to raise their five children.
John Hack II developed an interest in excavating at a young age, thanks to his grandfather and father. He learned to operate equipment at a young age and worked his way through college. John graduated from Purdue University with a degree in Civil Engineering in 1991. At that time, he joined the company full-time. John is a partner in the company and shares in the office and field responsibilities. He is a past president of Indiana Land Improvement Contractors Association and is currently on the board of directors.
John's wife, Stacey, also graduated from Purdue in Civil Engineering and holds a professional engineering license. She works part time with the office work and serves as payroll accountant. John and Stacey have seven young children.
Hack Excavating was incorporated in 1996 and has continued to grow with additional employees, equipment and service.
